Faced with the inequality of access to the vaccine, the crisis will last several years

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, head of the World Health Organization (WHO), warned against inequality of access to vaccines against COVID-19 between rich and poor countries. According to him, this inequality “hollows out” and becomes “grotesque”, “thus the virus can take the world hostage for several more years”.

“The gap between the number of vaccines administered in rich countries and the number of vaccines administered via Covax widens and becomes more grotesque every day,” he added.

“In January, I said that the world was on the verge of catastrophic moral failure if urgent measures were not taken to ensure fair distribution of anti-cotto vaccines. We have the means to avoid this failure, but it is shocking to see how few things have been done to avoid it, “he said.

“Some countries race to vaccinate their entire population when other countries have nothing. This can give short -term security, but it is a false feeling of security, ”said the OMS director general, quoted by global press agencies.

According to an AFP assessment, more than 455 million doses have been administered worldwide, including more than a quarter in the United States.

In Tunisia, the Ministry of Health has announced that the total number of people who have been vaccinated against the coronavirus since the start of the national vaccination campaign, reached 18,020 including 5,524 vaccinated yesterday, Monday, March 22, 2021.
