During the official draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, held this Friday at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC, FIFA officially awarded its brand new “FIFA Peace Prize – Football Unites the World” to Donald J. Trump.
The ceremony, orchestrated by FIFA President Gianni Infantino – a loyal ally of the American president – saw the awarding of the inaugural trophy, presented as a “football” version of the Nobel Peace Prize.
Exceptional actions
According to FIFA, this prize rewards “exceptional actions in favor of peace” and an “unfailing commitment to uniting people”.
On the red carpet in Washington, Trump — accompanied by close international figures who had come for the draw — received the trophy, described by some as “three times larger than the World Cup trophy.”
In his speech, Infantino praised the “work of reconciliation” and the “diplomatic initiatives” carried out recently, saying that they embodied the spirit of peace that FIFA wished to honor.
