Reunited in an emergency in the Qatari capital, the Arab and Islamic leaders posted a unit on Monday in the face of what they describe as “blatant violation” of Qatar’s sovereignty. The Israeli strike that targeted Hamas officials in Doha served as a trigger at this exceptional summit, summoned to denounce what Qatar described as an act of “state terrorism”.
In their final statement, the heads of state and government firmly condemned the Israeli attack, described as “dangerous escalation” and “unacceptable provocation” in full mediation for a cease-fire in Gaza. Participants accused Israel of torpedoing the ongoing negotiations and threatening regional stability.
The press release called for all the States to take all possible legal and effective measures to prevent Israel from continuing their actions against the Palestinian people, including by supporting efforts aimed at putting an end to their impunity, to hold it responsible for its violations and their crimes, to impose sanctions, to suspend the supply, transfer or transit of arms, ammunition and military material, including double -use goods, that to re -examine their diplomatic and economic relations with it and to initiate legal proceedings against it.
“This attack not only aims at Qatar, but also the collective efforts to bring peace,” said the emir of Qatar, Cheikh Tamim Ben Hamad Al Thani, at the opening of the summit.
Several leaders, including those of Egypt, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Jordan, assured Doha of their solidarity in the face of what they consider as an attack on its sovereignty. They reaffirmed their support for the role of mediator played by Qatar, in collaboration with Cairo and Washington, in talks aimed at a ceasefire and the liberation of prisoners.
A firm reminder on the Palestinian issue
The summit also allowed the Arab and Muslim countries to reaffirm their attachment to the Palestinian cause. The final press release reiterates their support for a solution to two states, on the basis of the 1967 borders, with East Quds as the capital of the Palestinian State, and calls on the international community to “assume its responsibilities” in the face of Israeli violations.
