Two four-story buildings collapsed in a district of Fez during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday. The provisional toll shows 19 dead and 16 injured. Rescuers are continuing their search to find possible survivors under the rubble.

In the Al Moustakbal district, located in the Al Massira area of Fez, two adjoining buildings collapsed suddenly, causing a scene of chaos in the heart of the city.

According to the Moroccan news agency MAP, rescuers confirmed a provisional toll of 19 victims, while 16 other people were extracted alive, some seriously injured. Civil Protection teams continue to search the piles of concrete and rubble in the hope of locating survivors still trapped.

A densely built-up area

The rescue operations, carried out under extensive security, mobilize firefighters, medical teams and neighborhood volunteers, all faced with the difficulty of intervening in a densely built-up area.

Local authorities are closely monitoring developments, while the exact causes of the collapse have not yet been established. Residents, for their part, speak of the fragile state of several buildings in the area, but no official confirmation has been provided.
