In Sudan, clashes broke out on Monday, January 18, 2021, between rival tribes in the state of Darfur-Sud (west of Sudan) killing at least 47 people.

According to a chief of the Fallata tribe, individuals belonging to the Rizeigat tribe aboard vehicles, motorcycles and camels, launched an attack on the village of Saadoun.

These clashes claimed the lives of 47 people and several houses were burnt down during this attack.

These new violence occurs after at least 83 people were killed in less than 48 hours in clashes between tribes in the state of Darfur-Ouest, another state of the vast region of Darfur in prey to community conflicts.

These violence arises while the end of the mandate of the joint peace mission of the United Nations and the African Union in Darfur (Miniad) was announced on December 31, after 13 years of activity.

Since January 1, the 8,000 soldiers, police and civilians of the mission were gradually leaving the country. The Miniad said that it is up to the Sudanese government to assume the responsibility to protect civilians in the region.
