The CIJ, the highest jurisdiction of the United Nations, estimated yesterday Friday July 19 that the occupation by the Hebrew State of the Palestinian territories since 1967 was “illegal”.
“The Court considered that the continuous presence of Israel in the Palestinian territories was illegal,” said the judge presiding the CIJ, Nawaf Salam.
“The State of Israel has the obligation to end its illegal presence as quickly as possible in the occupied Palestinian territories,” he warned.
If the opinion of the International Court of Justice (CIJ) is not binding, it could increase the growing pressure on Israel, reports the world.
“It is the highest jurisdiction (of the UN) and it presented a very detailed analysis of what is happening through the occupation and the colonization prolonged by Israel of the Palestinian territory, in violation of international law”, welcomed Warsen Aghabekian, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Palestinian Authority.
For his part, the Israeli Prime Minister, Benyamin Netanyahu, reacted by affirming that “no false decision of The Hague will distort this historical truth, and, likewise, the legality of Israeli colonization in all the territories of our homeland cannot be disputed”.
