The historic trial of the January 2015 attacks which occurred in Paris opens tomorrow Wednesday, September 2. On this occasion, Charlie Hebdo decided to republish the caricatures of the prophet Muhammad who had made the satirical weekly a target of the jihadists. This issue whose coverage takes up these caricatures, in newsstands on Wednesday and accessible online this Tuesday at noon.
“We will never go to bed. We will never give up, ”justified the director of the newspaper, quoted by the AFP agency. “The hatred that has struck us is still there and, since 2015, it has taken the time to turn, to change its appearance to go unnoticed and continuously pursues its ruthless crusade,” he added.
These twelve drawings, initially published by the Danish daily Jyllands-Posten on September 30, 2005, then by Charlie Hebdo in 2006 had raised a large controversy. Besides, the editorial staff of Charlie Hebdo had been the target, on January 7, 2015 of a terrorist attack having killed 12 victims.
