The Tunisian police, in collaboration with the Italian police, arrested Angelo Salvatore Stracuzzi, an Italian suspected of having close ties with the Cosa Nostra, this morning reports Italian media.
Stracuzzi, which was the subject of an arrest warrant in Italy for facts of money laundering, disturbances to the freedom of auctions and extortion, all aggravated by mafia methods, was arrested in the coastal city of Hammamet.
This operation, carried out by the Nucleo Di Polizia Economic-Finanziaria de Palermo under the direction of the National Anti-Mafia prosecution, is part of international cooperation via the Interpol canal.
Stracuzzi, already targeted by measures to seize goods and special surveillance in Italy because of its alleged ties with the Cosa Nostra d’Agrigento, would have played an active role in a company related to the local mafia of Licata.
The arrest warrant had been issued for extortion episodes against entrepreneurs from the Agrigental region, aimed at appropriating buildings and land subject to judicial auctions.
For some time, the fugitive had managed to escape the Italian authorities before being finally arrested by the Criminal Brigade of the Tunisian police, in coordination with the Italian nucleo.
