An earthquake of magnitude 7 rocked, this Thursday, December 5, the coastal region of northern California, according to the American Institute of Geophysics (USGS). The event led to the triggering of a tsunami alert.
Opening at 6:44 p.m. GMT, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers, near the city of Eureka, according to the USGS data. The alert concerns a large portion of the Pacific coast, extending north of San Francisco.
“The preliminary parameters indicate a risk of dangerous tsunamis within 300 kilometers around the epicenter,” warned the American authorities. Although no vague has yet been pointed out, they call populations close to the coast to vigilance in the face of this potential threat.
