Accused of abuse of dominant position on the online advertising market, Google is attacked by the American justice.
Tuesday, January 24, 2023, the American Department of Justice and eight states filed a complaint against Google, accusing it of “monopoly” on the online advertising market.
The Department of Justice has launched an action against Google, accusing it an abuse of dominant position on the online advertising market and now argues for a dismantling of the group. This is the last complaint of a long series that has been targeting American tech giants for three years.
He criticizes Alphabet (Google’s parent company) for using his monopoly situation to almost integrate the online advertising market and according to the accusation, Google has made a perfect assembly to get rid of competition, which concerns the American authorities.
He imputes in particular on Google to have interfered in all aspects of the online advertising market, using its anti -competitive and illegal means in order to exclude or considerably reduce any threat to its domination on online advertising technologies.
Faced with the accusations of American justice, Google nevertheless has a major argument to defend itself, believing that it is not the only one to reign in the advertising market. Because like Google, Amazon and Meta (owner of Facebook and Instagram) also have huge advertising networks.
These prosecution is therefore advised and the complainants’ request to dismantle in several entities, Google, which already faces other proceedings related to competition law, could therefore be rejected.
20 years ago a showdown between the American state and Microsoft, had committed. And if justice had decided, at first instance, in favor of the government and ordered Microsoft’s dismantling in two entities (a windows and another for software), the decision had been reversed on appeal.
