One month after the breakdown of diplomatic relations, Algeria announced, this Wednesday, September 22, 2021, the closure of its airspace to Moroccan civil and military aircraft.
The decision was announced following a high security council meeting, chaired by the head of state Abdelmadjid Bouteflika.
The Algerian presidency cited “the prosecution of provocations and practices hostile on the Moroccan side” as a reason for the sudden closure of its airspace.
On August 24, Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Laamamra announced that Algeria decided to break diplomatic relations with Morocco.
The Algerian diplomat had also accused Morocco of having committed “inamicial and hostile acts” against Algeria.
