Republican Kevin McCarthy won the necessary votes to be elected president of the American Chamber of Representatives on Friday to Saturday, ending a process marked to the end by very strong tensions in the Republican ranks.
Kevin McCarthy, member of the House of Representatives, elected Republican of Florida, was finally elected president of the institution (“speaker”) by 216 votes.
It took fourteen laps and four days of negotiations following an unprecedented blockage for a hundred and sixty years. Kevin McCarthy becomes in fact the third character in the country, behind President Joe Biden and vice-president Kamala Harris.
Very strong tensions in the Republican ranks have further punctuated the day of Friday, January 6. A handful of radical Trumpist Trumpists of the “Freedom Caucus” (the “Liberty Group”) refused the election of Kevin McCarthy, also a supporter of Donald Trump.
