At least 632 people died in a powerful earthquake that devastated Morocco overnight Friday to Saturday, causing enormous damage and panicing in Marrakech and several other cities, according to a provisional official assessment. A previous assessment reported 296 dead.
In Casablanca, many residents also spent the night outside, for fear that their roof will collapse. “I don’t know if I have to stay down or go up. Frankly, it’s scary, ”says a resident.
