While the country is experiencing a catastrophic situation with more than 66 thousand dead only in March, Brazil detected a new variant of the coronavirus near the big city of Sao Paolo.

The variant was detected in a 34 -year -old woman who had minor symptoms, reports the G1 information site. She said she did not have traveled recently inside or outside Brazil, according to Paulo Menezes, director of the Coronavirus Emergency Center in Sao Paulo.

According to Brazilian scientists, this new variant is similar to that detected in South Africa.

This country in South America is one of the hardest affected by the pandemic. Only the United States has recorded a higher number of infections and deaths.
