As a prelude to the 2nd summit of American and African leaders (US-Africa Leaders Summit), in Washington from December 13 to 15, 2022, the United States announced the mobilization of $ 55 billion which will be devoted to Africa.

The United States “will devote $ 55 billion to Africa over three years,” said the White House, just before the US President Joe Biden, received the 49 heads of state and government guests yesterday.

Jake Sullivan, a national security advisor of the American president, said that these funds would in particular be devoted to health and the response to climate change, indicating that the details would be revealed in the coming days.

He also announced the appointment of a “special representative” responsible for ensuring the implementation of these major financial promises. It will be Johnnie Carson, a 79 -year -old diplomat, who has been ambassador to several African countries.

The three-day summit in Washington is supposed to relaunch relations of the United States with the African continent, when China as Russia advance their pawns on the continent.

During this summit, debates should focus on food security -threatened by war in Ukraine -, climate change, democracy, governance and human rights.
