The UN, the EU and the World Bank estimate the cost of reconstruction of Gaza at more than $ 53 billion
A joint assessment published Tuesday by the United Nations, the European Union and the World Bank reveals that the needs for the reconstruction of Gaza after 15 months of war between the occupation and Hamas exceed $ 53 billion. This figure comes from the rapid evaluation of damage and needs for Gaza and the West Bank.
According to this preliminary analysis, $ 53.2 billion will be necessary for the reconstruction and recovery of the territory over a period of ten years, including $ 20 billion in the first three years.
The report assesses the magnitude of destruction, losses and needs for the revival of almost all sectors of the Palestinian economy, based on data collected between October 2023 and October 2024.
Gaza health authorities point out that the war has left more than 48,000 dead, in addition to having caused massive destruction in the enclave.
Reconstruction will take several years and will notably involve the demining of unplodced ammunition as well as the evacuation of millions of tonnes of debris.
