The European border and border coast guard agency (FRONTEX) said, according to the latest data published yesterday Saturday, August 12, 2023 by its services, that the number of arrivals by the Central Mediterranean increased by 115 %.
Thus, since the beginning of this year, half of the irregular migrants have taken the road to the central Mediterranean to enter the territory of the European Bloc countries at a time when entry operations on other migratory routes have decreased.
On the other hand, Frontex reported that the irregular crossings detected at the borders of the EU increased by 13 % in the first seven months of this year, the number of arrivals reaching 176,100, the highest total recorded in the first seven months since 2016.
