By this projection, FIFA wanted to pay tribute to the Tunisian woman. This woman who, throughout the centuries, has proven her courage and determination to defend her homeland, advance her country and improve the living conditions of her compatriots.
This Tunisian woman, worthy daughter of Kahena, Alyssa, Arwa Al Kairawania, Aziza Othmana… This Tunisian woman who has been carrying the country at arm’s length. This Tunisian woman who, no later than yesterday, not only offered Tunisia her first Olympic medal for 2016, but also offered the African woman her very first Olympic fencing medal!
For FIFA, believing in the Tunisian woman is not an in vain, but a reality: he has for honorary president, our international star Hend Sabry, and his two jury presidents of the 2016 edition are Dorra Bouchoucha and Fatma Saidane, two exceptional Tunisian.
Made in 2015, the film “Warda, the passion for life”, tells the story of a young Tunisian artist passionate about engraving and cancer.
According to the director, “the events of this 26 -minute film relate Warda’s daily life between care and creation to finally succeed in defeating the disease”, he adds that “his will, his talent and his love for life have earned him to participate in national and international fairs”.
This documentary therefore follows the daily life of this young plastic artist and accompanies her throughout her days when she is going to be treated, spends moments with the family, takes classes of engraving… ..
Through the story of Warda, the director shows that you should never let go of despair, that life continues, that it deserves to be fully lived and that you have to fight always and again. It also shows that art is a means of resistance that allows you to move forward, dream, create, make projects … Art gives meaning to life.
“Warda, the passion for life” won in 2015, the Grand Prix du Nile for the best documentary short film during the 4th edition of the Luxor African Cinema Festival (Laff), in Egypt. In 2016, he also received the special mention of the jury for the competition for documentary films of the 6th cinematographic days of Algiers (JCA), in Algeria.
Mahmoud Jemni, director of the film “Warda, the passion for life” is a Tunisian filmmaker. He began his career in the late 1960s in the film clubs before participating in filming. He co -ened and made several films, including in 2012, in 2012, “Coloquinte”, a 52 -minute documentary through which he presents the testimonies of former Tunisian political prisoners, before and after independence, on the memory of torture and the abuse they had suffered.
Mahmoud Jemni is also a film critic and author. He was also secretary general of the ATPCC (Tunisian association of the promotion of cinematographic criticism) and member of the jury in some festivals including those of Cairo, Dubai and Locarno. He was the initiator and supervisor of the children’s jury at the Carthage Cinematographic Days. He is also the author of a book “Forty years of Tunisian cinema: crossed views”.
Mr. Mahmoud Jemni is currently the president of the Gabès Arab Film International Film Festival, the second edition of which will take place from September 24 to 30, 2016.
