The famous Greek singer Demis Roussos died in the night from Saturday to Sunday in Athens, the French media announced this Monday, January 26. Known for his hits from the 70s and 80s, he was 69 years old.

Demis Roussos first had international success with the Aphrodite’s Child, of which he was the singer and the bass player before starting a solo career in the early 1970s.

He had the particularity of singing in three languages and was the interpreter of many hits like “We Shall Dance” (1971), “far from the eyes far from the heart” (1978), or “When I love you” (1987).

Demis Roussos was born in June 1946 in Alexandria in Egypt, where he spent his childhood there in an Orthodox community. This explains why he was, a darker steep by Greek and Arabic music.
