The film Dachra (2018) by Abdelhamid Bouchnak Bat the cinema entrance records of the last 20 years in Tunisia.

The film made 100,000 admissions in just 17 days since its Tunisian release on January 23, 2019, according to the official figures for the distributor Hakka Distribution. This figure attests to success in record time for the first fiction feature film of this young director.

Thanks to the public, Dachra is the first profitable Tunisian film. He managed to cover his production costs with theaters’ distribution revenues.

Yet Dachra did not benefit from the subsidy of the Tunisian State or from any help of sponsors or from Tunisian or foreign funds.

Other record: Dachra was written, shot and presented to the public in just a year.

The important role of the film team must be noted in making this project. The actors and technicians, united and committed, were of great patience despite the difficult conditions for making the film thanks to their confidence in Abdelhamid Bouchnak. Several of them collaborated with him on several projects before, which has created strong links within this united team. The co -producer Omar Ben Ali and his company “SVP Production” were also of a decisive contribution.

Selected at several important festivals such as the Venice criticism week, or the Cairo International Film Festival, The film was released in theaters in several countries around the world.
