The High Authority Independent of Audiovisual Communication (HAICA) denounced the decision of the prosecution of the Tunis court of first instance to ban Telvza TV from broadcasting the film “Mohammad”.

The Haica assured, in a press release made public this Tuesday, that “the duty to respect the freedom of the press is the responsibility of everyone, especially the justice which must above all ensure compliance with the good application of the law relating to rights and freedoms”.

The regulatory body has emphasized the overcoming of his prerogatives, adding that he “can only lead to media control and threatens the future of press freedom”.

The prosecution of the Tunis court of first instance had prohibited, on October 15, in Telvza TV from broadcasting the film “Mohammad”.

The chain has submitted to the prosecution’s decision, still specifying that the prosecution exceeded its prerogatives and that it is up to Haica to make this kind of decisions.

“Mohammad”, released in 2015, is an Iranian film, directed by Majid Mjaied, which created a lively controversy. Some considered that he affects the Prophet.
