My JCC | Day 1

Yesterday, first day of the 2016 JCC. I started it with the Egyptian film Eshtebek (Clash) of Mohamed Diab. And it was really waw on all fronts. The script, the staging, the actors’ game … everything was perfect, except perhaps the conclusion or the message of the film, on which I have some reservations after the forced cohabitation with the Islamists that Nidaa imposed on us.

This film had opened the section A certain look At the Cannes Film Festival in 2016. During the ten days of the festival, all were unanimous to say that the film is excellent. THE Hollywood Reporter had described it as “jewels” and Tom Hanks had sent a congratulating letter to the director.

Eshtebek Will be screened a second time at the ABC cinema on October 31, 2016 at 4:30 p.m.

In the afternoon, I went to see the 8 short films produced by the JCCs on the occasion of the Cinquantenaire. I admit that I was very disappointed, and somewhere I was a little ashamed compared to our foreign guests.

Of the 8 short films, one was nice, one was moving and one was adorable. The other 5 were really not worth the trip.

The first, 35mmsays the madness that seizes certain Tunisians concerning the invitations to the opening and closing ceremonies of the JCC.

The best is the short film by Wissem Tlili Reversea very beautiful caricature of the Tunisian spectator. Very beautiful film. We laugh, we really laugh at our flaws.

The short film Before first From Fares Naanaa is moving. He immerses us in the atmosphere of the attack on last year which made 12 victims and makes us relive all this emotion and all this solidarity between Tunisians, united in pain and struggle.

On the other hand, the atmosphere of the JCC is there. Avenue Habib Bourguiba is celebrating. The cinemas are full, although disorganization with regard to tickets. There is a very annoying connection problem. I hope it will be better on the next few days.

Do not miss eshtebek and good festival !!!
