The new edition of the Musical October by Carthage confirms the resilience of this classical music festival. Failing to take place in the old Saint-Louis basilica, the musical October will take place this season in the Tunis cathedral.
The musical October of Carthage has been fully part of the Tunisian cultural landscape for over a quarter of a century. Founded by Mustapha El Okby, this festival had taken up residence at the top of the byrsa hill, within the old cathedral of Carthage.
However, for two years, musical October has lost its setting when the Ministry of Cultural Affairs had ended the dealership of what was the acropolium of Carthage.
Since then, musical October has found a symbolic solution by obtaining the support of the Archbishopric of Tunis and by investing several consecrated churches. This is how the 2021 edition took place on three Catholic churches in the Great Tunis.
The concerts had taken place in the cathedral of Tunis and also in the Jeanne d’Arc church and that of La Goulette.
For this year, the program is tightened and takes place exclusively in the Saint Vincent de Paul and Saint Olive cathedral.
For this new transition edition, the program will be limited to two evenings but will allow the continuity of the festival. Indeed, since its foundation in 1995, the musical October of Carthage has experienced remarkable continuity and experienced sessions during which more than twenty evenings were organized.
For a long time, this festival first devoted to chamber music, is part of the intangible cultural heritage at the point where several musical events across the country have resumed its name as in Sousse or Hammamet.
The fact is that, despite the Aleas and the difficult economic situation, the musical October of Carthage has resilience while waiting for better days. It is with the participation of the Embassy of the Czech Republic, the Les Solistes group and the hospitality of the Archbishopric of Tunis that this 2022 edition will take place on October 26 and 28.
The many friends of this festival will not fail to respond to the invitation of the acropolium team which, around Mustapha El Okby, continues the adventure and tries to draw sustainable options for the musical October of Carthage.
Like last year, the entry to the two evenings will be free and will also allow you to discover the unsuspected beauties of the Tunis cathedral.
