More than a hundred detainees at the JTC 2024

More than a hundred detainees from eleven prisons will present pieces on the occasion of the 25th edition of the theatrical days of Carthage, which will take place from November 23 to 30, 2024.

As part of this participation, eleven plays produced by the theater clubs of eleven penitentiary institutions, will be presented in the section “Théâtre de la Liberté”.

The detainees come from civil prisons from Gafsa, Mahdia, Sers, Mornaguia, Sfax and Kébili, the rehabilitation centers for delinquent minors in Oudhna, Mghira, Mourouj and Sidi Hani, as well as the Manouba women’s prison.

Since 2017, prisoners have participated in the “Théâtre de la Liberté” section of the JTC in partnership with the General Committee of Prisons and Rehabilitation. A way to offer them an opportunity to perform on stage.

This initiative which aims to be a tool for rehabilitation and psychological and social reintegration gave rise to five performances during the 2018 edition in eleven in 2019.

Three works will be rewarded with the prizes for the best play. The first prize, with 3000 dinars, will be awarded by the Directorate of the JTC. The second (1500 dinars) and third prize (1000 dinars), will be awarded by the CGPR.
