JCC 2024 – An expected return and renewed hopes

The Tunisia Ministry of Cultural Affairs has just announced the holding of the 35th edition of Carthage Cinematographic Days, from December 14 to 21, 2024. This emblematic event, so hoped for after a year of interruption, promises a carefully drawn programming and a selection of captivating films.

Under the honorary presidency of Mr. Farid Bougdir, this edition will see Madame Lamiaa Gueguia, director of the Higher School of Audiovisual Sciences and Cinema, at the head of the Organization, bringing her expertise and her passion to guarantee the success of this major cultural event.

However, it should be noted the late absence of the previous edition, canceled in 2023 due to the tragic events that rocked the region, notably the war in Gaza. This difficult decision has deprived the public of an expected annual meeting.

In 2023, the JCC team expressed its solidarity to the Palestinian people by considering a specific program dedicated to the promotion of Palestine and Palestinian cinema. Unfortunately, this opportunity was missed by the cancellation of the publishing, contrasting with other cultural events, such as the El Gouna Festivalwho were able to adapt their programming to the geopolitical situation.

Hopefully the 35th edition of Carthage’s cinematographic days is a moment of unforgettable reunion, sharing and cinematographic discoveries. Let us hope that it testifies once again to the unwavering commitment of Tunisia towards the promotion of culture and art in the region and beyond. Because this event goes far beyond a simple festival: since their creation in 1966, the JCCs have asserted themselves as a place of exchange and celebration of African and Arabic cinema, offering a unique platform to highlight the richness and diversity of these cinematographies.
