After a complete closure and catering work, the old Carthage cathedral should reopen its doors to the public.

Closed for three years, the former Cathedral Saint-Louis de Carthage is expected to open “partial and temporary” at the end of January 2024.

It is the Ministry of Cultural Affairs that has taken the initiative of this reopening which only concerns part of the cathedral since the area of the apse will be inaccessible to the public.

The restoration work of the ancient cathedral continues at the moment while the Museum of Carthage is also the subject of a renovation and an inventory of its collections.

The complete reopening of the museum is scheduled by 2026 while according to our sources, the former Carthage cathedral should soon be handed over to the concession.

After welcoming the acropolium created by Mustapha El Okby in 1995, as part of a concession which was interrupted in 2021, the former cathedral should thus return to service soon with a new specifications and new operators.

For the time being, this historic monument should find animation thanks to mediators who will accompany visitors.

The opening hours of the old Saint-Louis cathedral will be similar to those of the neighboring museum. Good news to put the assets of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs which, in recent months, has also reopened the Bardo museum and the Musée de Tourbet El Bey.
