The Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) announced its major support for Arabic cinema, both artistic and financially, as well as the enlargement of the competition between its creators, during its 45th edition to be held from November 13 to 22 at the Cairo Opera.
This year, the festival management has decided to give all the Arab films participating in the various competitions and sections to compete for the horizons of Arab cinema prices, and to offer for the first time in cash to encourage their creators. The total price value reaches 25,000 US dollars, spread over five categories: the price for the best film, the price for the best director, the price for the best scenario, and two interpretation prizes for women and men. This testifies to the support of the festival to Arab filmmakers whose presence and influence increase in various cinematographic events around the world, and its commitment to encourage their creative voices.
The artist Hussein Fahmy, president of the Cairo International Film Festival, said: ” We strive to provide a generous space to support talents and cinematographic works in the Arab world, and to highlight these works, whether by expanding the projection of films in the different sections or through the Cairo Connection film which has supported dozens of Arab films in recent years. »»
He added: ” Arab cinema is experiencing a great evolution. There are high quality films because technology linked to cinema has progressed a lot in the Arab world. We have ideas, talented writers, great artists among directors, actors and directors of photography. This is why the Cairo Festival thinks that these Arab films and creators deserve greater attention. »»
The critic Essam Zakaria, director of the Cairo International Film Festival, said that this edition will highlight Arab cinema more in order to know a more intense competition and a strong presence, by generalizing the idea of prices to include horizons prices to all the Arab films present in all the other sections of the festival, whether in international competition or in the criticism. This allows everyone to have a chance to compete and be assessed. This approach is supported by the increase in the number of prices awarded by the jury at five prices in five categories.
