Cannes 2023 – The Arab Cinema Center reveals the appointments of Arab Critics Awards

Cannes 2023 – For the 7th consecutive year, the Center for Arab Cinema will organize, on the sidelines of the Cannes Film Festival, a ceremony for the arab Critics Awards.

For this year, the number of criticisms that voted is 193 from all 72 countries.

The nominees are:

  • Best film:
  • The blue of the caftan from Maryam Touzani (Morocco)
  • Hanging Gardens by Ahmed Yassin Aldaradji (Iraq)
  • Adam from Firas Khoury (Palestine)

  • Best actor:
  • Adam Bessa For his role in the film Harka (Tunisia)
  • Salah Bakri for his role in The blue of the caftan (Palestine)
  • Hussain Mohammad Jaleel for his role in Hanging Gardens (Iraq)

  • Best actress:
  • Lubna Azabal for her role in The blue of the caftan (Morocco)
  • Clara Couturet for her role in Dirty, difficulty, danger (Ethiopia)
  • Fatma oussaifi for his role in Ashkal (Tunisia)

  • Best director:
  • Youssef Chebbi for Ashkal (Tunisia)
  • Maryam Touzani for The blue of the caftan (Morocco)
  • Erige Sehiri for Under the figs (Tunisia)

  • Best documentary:
  • Drilling by Jumana Manna (Palestine)
  • Sirens from Rita Baghdadi (Lebanon)
  • My Lost Country from Ishtar Yasin Gutierrez (Iraq)

  • Best photo:
  • Frida Marzouk for Under the figs (Tunisia)
  • Pierre Aim for Queens (France)
  • Virginie Surdej for The blue of the caftan (Poland)

  • Best editing:
  • Julie Léna for Queens (France)
  • Valentin Féron for Ashkal (France)
  • Sophie Corra & Thomas Niles for Harka

  • Best music:
  • Eli Keszler for Harka (USA)
  • Amine Bouhafa for Under the figs (Tunisia)
  • Kristian Eldnes Andersen for The blue of the caftan (Denmark)

Four of these films had been selected at the Cannes Film Festival in 2022. In competition a certain look, Harka directed by Lotfy Nathan (Best interpretation price for Adam Bessa) And The blue of the caftan Directed by Maryam Touzani (Fipresci price). At the fifteen of filmmakers, the film Ashkal Made by Youssef Chebbi and Under the figs D’Erige Sehiri (Prix du Jury Ecoprod for its eco-production approach during the filming of the film).

It should be noted that this year, Maryam Touzani is part of the jury for the feature films.

In addition, the center of Arab cinema will pay tribute to Egyptian criticism Safaa Elovehy and to the French critic Olivier Barlet for their significant contribution in the field of cinematographic criticism over the years!
