The FInternational Cairo Film Estival (Ciff) paid tribute to the late Mahmoud Abdelaziz who just died on Saturday November 12 following a long illness.
In a press release dated November 14, Ms. Magda Wassef, president of the festival, wanted to present, in her name and on behalf of the whole team of the festival, her sincere condolences to the artist’s family, to all the Egyptian people, and to everyone Arab.
She also announced that this 38th edition, which is held from November 15 to 24, 2016, will be dedicated to the name and soul of this great star.
The late Mahmoud Abdelaziz began his career in the early 1970s on television. His talent quickly caught the attention of directors and producers and he quickly started playing in various films, even going up to three films per year.
He really started to know success thanks to his film Shame In 1982, which was followed by other successful films, such as The apartment returns to the wife Or The pleasure…
Its most important role remains that of blind and sympathetic sheikh dreaming of leading a motorcycle in the film Kat Kit (1991) by Daoud Abdel Sayed.
In 2001, he will seduce his audience with his role in The magician by Radwan Al Kashif who earned him his nickname of cinema magician.
Tunisians got to know Mahmoud Abdelaziz in 1976 thanks to the soap opera Al Laquitabut above all thanks to its role in the famous soap opera Rafat Il Hajjene (1987) in which he embodied an Egyptian spy who would have infiltrated Israeli intelligence services.
Mahmoud Abdelaziz is the father of the two actors Karim and Mohamed Mahmoud Abdelaziz.
The actor was buried on Sunday November 13. This Wednesday, a condolence ceremony will take place at the Cheikh Zaied mosque.
In addition, last night, during the festival’s opening ceremony, a tribute was paid to Mahmoud Abdelaziz, with the screening of a video retracing his career. And as a sign of mourning, the gala dinner which was scheduled after the ceremony had been canceled.
For his part, before starting his welcome speech, the Minister of Culture asked the guests to observe a minute of silence.
