It is in the “Orizzonti” section (“Horizons”), from the 80th Mostra of Venice which will take place at the Venice Lido from August 30 to September 9, 2023, that the film of our compatriot Mohamed Ben Attia, “Behind the Mountains” (“Beyond the mountains” or “Oura El Jbel”, his title in Arabic), will be among 17 selected films.
It will be projected as a world premiere in the “Orizzonti” section which is an international competition “dedicated to films which represent the latest aesthetic and expressive trends, with particular attention to the first films, young talents, independent feature films and less known cinema”, reads the site of the Venice Mostra.
Among the main actors in the casting of this fiction, Majd Mastoura, Samer Bisharat, Walid Bouchhioua, Selma Zeghidi, Helmi Dridi and Wissem Belgharek.
This fictional feature (98 ‘) is a co -production between Tunisia (Nomadis Images), Belgium, France, Italy, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. The French company “Luxbox” provides the international sale of the film.
This is the third feature film by Ben Attia, after “Inhebek Hedi” (2016) and “Weldi” (2018).
As for the film in itself, it is the story of Rafik who, after spending four years in prison, has only one plan in mind: taking her son behind the mountains and showing him his amazing discovery …
It should be recalled that the sections of the 80th Venice International Film Festival are “Venezia 80 competition” which constitutes the international competition, “outside competition”, “Orizzonti”, “Orizzonti Extra”, “Venice Classics” (the classics of world cinema), “Venice immersive”, in addition to a special projection.
