The Tunisian film “Ashkal” by Youssef Chebbi won the Yennenga Golden Etalon, from the 28th edition of the Pan -African Cinema and television festival of Ouagadougou (Fespaco), in Burkina Faso, whose prize list was unveiled on Saturday evening.
In addition to this distinction which is the Festival Grand Prix, “Ashkal” had the price for the best sound.
The Golden Etalon is awarded to the best film in the fiction feature films competition, which was also “under the figs” of Erige Sehiri. This fiction is the winner of the female interpretation prize and the male interpretation prize, awarded to all actresses and actors.
In the documentary competition, “blind spot” of Lotfi Achour won the golden foal foal. The feature film gold was awarded to the Cape Verdean Carlos Yuri Ceuninck for his film “Omi Nobu/The New Man”.
Six Tunisian films were in the official selection of Fespaco organized from February 25 to March 4, 2023 under the theme “Cinema of Africa and Culture of Peace”.
The Tunisian seventh art was also represented by the Manouba Multimedia Higher Institute (Isamam), in the official selection of film school films.
The jury of the official fictional feature films jury was chaired by Tunisian producer Dorra Bouchoucha.
A list of 15 fiction feature films was in the running for the Golden Etalon. Two directors distinguished themselves by winning the Silver Stallion and the Bronze Stallion, attributed respectively to the Burkinabè Apolline Traoré for his film “Sira” and the Kenyan Angela Wamai for her film “Shimoni”.
