Because life always triumphs,
Because life is the most beautiful,
Because despite the tears we will stand up,
Because art is immortal,
Because we are life and they are only death,
Because we are beauty and they are only ugliness,
They will not pass.
They will not pass. They will be able to win a few battles, but life will always win.
The steering committee of the 27th edition of Carthage cinematographic days Holds his press conference this morning in Tunis, rue Medhat Pacha (perpendicular to Mohamed V avenue). He will present the main axes of the 2016 edition scheduled from October 28 to November 05 and announce the program of the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the JCC.
Rue Medhat Pacha is the street in which, on November 24, 2015, a murderous attack had mowed the lives of twelve of our valiant members of the presidential guard and had injured 20 others. That day corresponded to 4th 26 dayth Edition of Carthage’s cinematographic days. The terrorists certainly wanted, too, to spoil the Cinema Day. They had committed their odious act knowing that Tunisia received illustrious guests of several nationalities and that the spotlights were on our country. Only they had not counted on the determination of Tunisians and their guests.
Just a few minutes after the attack, during the screening session of the film “The borders of the sky”, Lotfi Abdelli had said: “It is a message to the world to see that Tunisia has the culture of life. Whoever is afraid dies every day. The one who is not afraid does not die only once».
That evening, the organizing committee of Carthage’s cinematographic days had decided that the festival would not be interrupted. Brahim Letaief announced it a few hours after the loose attack. And to adapt to the decreed fire cover, all the programming of the projections of the films had been modified. We had to work overnight to prepare everything for the next day.
Braving the fire cover, and on the proposal of Mostafa Elkilany, journalist and secretary general of Port Said Arab Film Festival (Egypt) who filmed them, Egyptian artists (the actors Hana Shiha, Amr Youssef, Khaled Abol Naga, Nagla Badr, Salwa Khattab, director Karim Hanafy, the film critic Ahmed Shawky) and the Syrian actress Kinda Allouch, guests of the JCC, were released in Avenue Habib Bourguiba Solidarity with the Tunisian people and the organizers of the JCC and to announce their decision to stay until the end of the festival.
This video went around the Arab world and was shared on the internet and on several television channels.
The actors Hend Sabry and Khaled Abol Naga then changed their profile photos on Facebook. They had wooded the Tunisian flag out of solidarity.
None of the guests of the festival had interrupted his stay and had left Tunisia. Apart from Roger Waters who had canceled his visit, all the other planned guests had continued to arrive in Tunisia, such as Bassem Youssef who had animated the closing evening.
“We are not afraid. We will always be the strongest. We will show the terrorists that we love life ”.
The next day, and contrary to all expectations, the cinemas were archicombles. The Tunisians had come en masse to attend the projections, as if to challenge the terrorists even more and show their determination to make life triumph: “We are not afraid. We will always be the strongest. We will show the terrorists that we love life, ”they said.
Art had triumphed over terror!
Almost a year later, the organizing committee of Carthage Cinematographic Days wanted to organize its press conference in this same place to pay tribute to our martyrs, to show that we think of them, that we have not forgotten them, and above all to say that Tunisia and the Tunisians are still standing and that they are celebrating life again.
Art will always triumph over terror!
