In response to the tragic events that are currently shaking Gaza because of the war between Israel and Palestine, the El Gouna film festival announces a “special edition” to be held from December 14 to 21.

The sixth edition of the festival initially scheduled for last October had been postponed due to the delicate situation in the region at that time.

Last October, in addition to announcing the postponement, The festival management revealed that a sum of 5 million Egyptian pounds had been allocated to strengthen the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. This significant contribution was made in partnership with the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development and the Egyptian Red Crescent-Red Society.

For this special edition, in addition to the initially planned program, the festival sets up a dedicated program in Palestinian cinema in collaboration with thePalestinian film Institute. The objective is to raise public awareness of the realities of life in Gaza and the inhuman conditions that prevail. The festival will also organize a fundraising dinner to support humanitarian aid efforts in Gaza, in coordination with the Egyptian Red Crescent.

It is underlined that this edition will take place without festive celebrations, thus stressing the solidarity of the El Gouna film festival with the Palestinian people. This decision testifies to the festival’s continuous commitment to the humanitarian cause and its desire to help to mitigate the suffering caused by the current conflict. By bringing together the world of cinema and highlighting Palestinian cinema, the El Gouna Film Festival aspires to be a catalyst for change and awakening of consciences in the face of this heartbreaking reality.
