“Aïcha”, the new feature film by Mehdi Barsaoui will be present at the Venice Mostra this fall. The selection of this new film has just been announced by Alberto Barbera at the press conference of this international film festival.
Mehdi Barsaoui’s first work had enjoyed appreciable success in Tunisia and abroad and gleaned from many distinctions.
“A son” had revealed Mehdi Barsaoui, a young director trained straddling Tunisia and Italy.
From 2021, the project of a second work was going to find its way, announcing this film entitled “Aïcha” including Alberto Barbera, the coach of the 81st Mostra of Venice, has just announced the participation in the “Orizzonti” section.
Shot between October and November 2023, “Aïcha” will thus begin his career in Venice and from there, will invest the screens in Tunisia and around the world. Completely like “a son” who has five years ago, had Venice for springboard.
Interpreted by Fatma Sfar, Yasmine Dimassi, Héla Ayed and Nidhal Saadi, this 123 -minute film presents itself as a thriller coupled with a dive into the world of the main character.
According to the synopsis, Aya is a young girl stuck in a dreary life and without perspective in Tozeur, in the south of Tunisia.
The only survivor of an accident, she decides to disappear to reinvent herself a new life in Tunis. But her new identity is compromised when she becomes the main witness to a police blunder.
“Aïcha” is a co -production between several countries: Tunisia, France, Italy and also Saudi Arabia and Qatar. The project was carried out by Habib Attia for Cinétéfilms and Marc Irmer for Dolce Vita Films.
