Master International Film Festival (Miff), Yasmine Hammamet, 1era Edition – A symbiosis between cinema, culture and tourism.
To launch this newborn baby landscape, the Master International Film Festival (MIFF), a surname to remember for the coming years and for a long time, in its first edition to be held from June 4 to 11, 2022, a press conference was held on Monday May 16, 2022, in the Odyssey room in the medina Yasmine Hammamet, in the presence of Mr. Mokhtar Lajimi, Director General of Miff, Managing Director of the company “ES-Salam”, medina manager Yasmine Hammamet, who gave a broad overview of this international event.
A founding edition which has the double role of promoting the Tunisia destination more and its multicultural and cinematographic environment and as a tourist destination of choice, the chosen place, the Yasmine Hammamet medina, being the most indicated to combine culture and tourism, thus becoming the “culture medina”.
As for the event in itself, Mokhtar Ladjimi said that the preparations for this meeting of 7th Art have been started for two years and that in collaboration with the company “ES-Salam”, a whole program has been developed to make this event an event of a completely different genre and different from other cinema meetings in Tunisia, be it the JCC, “Manarat”, or “Gabès Cinéma Fenn” for example.
The Miff wants to be a summary of the Best off of the world cinema of the five continents, with films which have been awarded in other festivals and which will once again be rewarded by this festival, by the quality of the work and its artistic, technical, aesthetic and other specificities.
The future winners of this festival will be decreed by an international jury and rewarded by the “Galion d’Or”. A new trophy with characteristics very specific to Tunisia, with the symbolism of the name and form, recalling the Carthaginian epic…
Like the poster of this new festival, inspired by the work of the great friend of Tunisia, the artist Paul Klee, enchanted by the colors and the lights of Tunisia.
A total of ten “Golden Galion” will be given to the winners of the various competitions which will concern the LM Fiction (12 films including 2 Tunisians), the documentary LM (6 films including 2 Tunisians), the CM (12 films including 4 Tunisians), in addition to the “Cinema and Heritage” section (10 films), that of “Cinema and Memory” (6 films).
In terms of participation, 65 films have been retained to date for the various projections, coming from 21 countries which are, in addition to Tunisia, Algeria, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Iraq, Iran, Senegal, Venezuela, China, Russia, Italy, Macedonia, Bosnia, Haiti, Turkey Kurdistan, France, Belgium, Hungary and Poland.
As for the projection spaces, the rooms available to the Yasmine Hammamet medina are fully made for this kind of event, with the large Hannibal conference room (which can contain some 2000 places) and the Odyssey room, to which will be added outdoor spaces such as the tent that will be drawn up on the “Errahba” esplanade, in the middle of the medina, to accommodate multiple projections addressed to the general public. In this regard, and for this launch edition, the public is invited to attend the various projections of films in competition for free and those outside.
In addition, large international stars of cinema will tread the MIFF red carpet during the opening and others will be present during the event or to animate Masters Class.
The MIFF will be a new orientation in the promotion of national and international cinema, a master’s degree in major international films which will be covered by many foreign correspondents and many national and international media….
A medina that will be dressed in a thousand colors to translate this perfect symbiosis between cinema and tourism during an international event, supported by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and that of tourism, in addition to many public and private partners.
