A petition to save the Punic port of Carthage du Carnage

The Punic port of Carthage is no longer what it was. Poorly maintained, poorly preserved, poorly protected, the archaeological site, however classified world heritage, knows a state of degradation which shocks all those who have the opportunity to go there. Fleuron of our cultural and civilizational heritage, the Punic port of Carthage may be destroyed in the long term if urgent safeguard measures are not undertaken. As such, a petition to save the site has been launched on the net since May 9, 2014 and has been raising 367 signatures so far.

The signatories claim the safeguarding of the Punic port, invaded by pleasure boats while “this is completely prohibited on an archaeological site classified as World Heritage”, recalls Al Massar who sent a delegation to make a visit on April 13, 2014. In his report, the delegation announces that it was “stunned” by the state of degradation in which the site is found ” Double aesthetic and environmental plan and an unspeakable disfigurement of its banks and its surroundings ”.

The urgent appeal addressed to the authorities to save the site claims the immediate ban on the anchoring of pleasure boats in the Punic port and the elimination of all anarchic and intrusive installations such as dilapidated bridges installed on the banks.
