As every year, the road tax (automobile sticker) applies according to a price scale set according to the tax power and the type of fuel. The authorities recalled the official payment schedule and the amounts due by vehicle category, in a context of strengthening tax monitoring.
To avoid any fines or surcharges, vehicle owners are asked to respect the following deadlines to pay the 2026 road tax:
- February 5, 2026: public administrative establishments, local authorities, similar organizations and legal entities, including the State.
- March 5, 2026: individuals owning vehicles with even registration numbers.
- April 5, 2026: individuals owning vehicles with odd registration numbers.
- May 5, 2026: vehicles intended for rental or acquired under leasing contracts.
The tax authorities point out that any late payment exposes the owner to financial penalties and administrative sanctions.
Prices
The amount of the automobile sticker varies according to two criteria: the fiscal power of the vehicle and the type of fuel used (petrol, diesel or LPG).
- Vehicles from 1 to 4 HP: Petrol: 65 DT / Diesel: 215 DT / LPG: 390 DT
- Vehicles from 5 to 7 HP: Petrol: 130 DT / Diesel: 280 DT / LPG: 455 DT

Stronger tax pressure on large engines
The 2026 grid confirms a very marked progression of the tax, with a considerable gap between small engine sizes and powerful vehicles. For example, a 16 HP petrol vehicle pays more than 30 times the sticker price of a 4 HP car.
This policy aims both to strengthen tax revenues, to discourage the use of vehicles that consume a lot of fuel, and to gradually orient the vehicle fleet towards less energy-consuming engines.
The tax services announce a tightening of controls in 2026 to fight against fraud and payment delays. Motorists are therefore called upon to strictly respect the timetable in order to avoid sanctions, administrative blockages or financial penalties.
In this context, the Ministry of Finance has put into service a digital platform allowing you to pay car circulation tax for the year 2026constituting a new step in the dematerialization of tax services in Tunisia.
But, for the time being, only vehicles with a tonnage exceeding five tonnes, in particular trucks, coaches and other heavy vehicles used in professional transport, are affected by this online procedure. Ordinary motorists will still have to wait.
