The day after the elimination of the Tunisian selection in the round of 16 of the African Cup of Nations, the Tunisian Football Federation formalized an amicable break with the entire technical staff. A decision which marks the end of a cycle, in a sporting context deemed insufficient.
The Tunisian Football Federation (FTF) announced on Sunday evening the amicable termination of the contracts binding the entire technical staff of the national team. This decision comes less than 24 hours after the elimination of the Carthage Eagles in the round of 16 of the African Cup of Nations, played in Morocco.
A mixed first round
Tunisia saw its journey come to an end at the end of a disputed match against Mali, concluded by a lost penalty shootout (3-2), after a draw (1-1) at the end of regulation time and extra time, Saturday evening in Casablanca. A cruel outcome, but which was not enough to mask the limits displayed throughout the competition.
During the group stage, the Carthage Eagles only recorded one victory, obtained in the opening match against Uganda (3-1). The rest of the journey came down to a defeat against Nigeria (3-2) and a draw against Tanzania (1-1), results which allowed Tunisia to qualify for the round of 16 in second place in Group C.
The federation turns the page
Without going into the details of the next technical orientations, the FTF thus marks the end of a staff whose record at the CAN did not meet expectations, in an increasingly critical climate around the performance of the national selection. This rupture now opens the way to a new phase of reflection, as the next continental and international deadlines approach.
