A new wave of contagion seems to be gaining ground in Tunisia thanks to the rapid spread of a new flu variant. Health authorities are sounding the alarm and calling for strengthening prevention measures, particularly during this period marked by gatherings linked to end-of-year celebrations.
The Director General of the Pharmaceutical Vigilance Center at the Ministry of Health, Doctor Riadh Daghfous, confirmed on Monday December 29, 2025 the active circulation of the new “K” variant, from the H3N2 strain. According to him, this variant is distinguished by a high transmission capacity, favoring a notable increase in cases of infection across several regions of the country.
Speaking on national radio, the health manager, however, wanted to qualify, specifying that this variant does not present, at this stage, a high level of severity. This epidemiological development nevertheless requires, according to him, increased vigilance in order to avoid additional pressure on the health system.
Need to strictly respect preventive measures
As the New Year festivities approach, Riadh Daghfous insisted on the need to strictly respect prevention measures. In particular, he recommended good ventilation of closed spaces, regular hand washing and the wearing of a mask in crowded places, all measures considered essential to slow down the chain of transmission.
The official also recalled the importance of vaccination against seasonal flu, especially for the elderly, those suffering from chronic illnesses and pregnant women. He assured that the vaccine currently available maintains its effectiveness in the face of the new variant, calling on the populations concerned to be vaccinated as soon as possible.
In a context marked by an increase in respiratory infections, health authorities are banking on prevention and vaccination to contain this wave of contagion and limit its repercussions on public health.
