The criminal chamber specializing in terrorism cases at the Tunis Court of Appeal rejected, this Monday, December 29, the opposition filed by Ahmed Nejib Chebbi against the conviction handed down against him. The court ruled this objection inadmissible on form, thus confirming the sentence of twelve years in prison.
According to a judicial source, Ahmed Nejib Chebbi had contested the judgment rendered in absentia condemning him to a firm sentence of twelve years in prison in the context of the case known as “plot against state security 1”. The Court of Appeal, however, decided to reject his appeal for formal defects, maintaining the initial decision, reports Mosaique fm.
Arrest and execution of judgment
It is recalled that on December 5, a security unit arrested Ahmed Nejib Chebbi in execution of the default judgment. At the end of his arrest, the prosecution ordered his incarceration to serve the sentence handed down in this case.
At the end of November, the specialized criminal chamber rendered final judgments against several defendants involved in this sensitive case relating to state security. Ahmed Nejib Chebbi was then sentenced to twelve years in prison with five years of administrative supervision, a sentence reduced compared to the first instance judgment which had sentenced him to eighteen years in prison.
