The Minister of Transport, Rachid Amri, visited the Jebel Jelloud depot of the Tunisian Railway Works Company this Friday, December 26, 2025, to inquire about the state of heavy equipment and the progress of maintenance operations.

This visit took place in the presence of the company’s managing director, the president and CEO of the Tunisian National Railway Company (SNCFT), as well as several ministry officials.

During this field visit, the minister insisted on the need to establish a precise timetable for the completion of repair work on heavy equipment, accompanied by a rigorous estimate of the maintenance budget. He also called for the rehabilitation of this equipment and their return to operation as soon as possible, and in an optimal manner, in order to contribute to the improvement of the state of the railway network and the realization of projects planned in the sector.

Implementation of investment projects

Rachid Amri stressed that upgrading equipment constitutes an essential lever for strengthening the performance of rail transport and improving the quality of services offered to users, both in terms of passenger and freight transport.

The minister also called for increased efforts to accelerate the implementation of investment projects of the Tunisian Railway Works Company, considering that it has numerous assets enabling it to succeed both nationally and internationally.

This approach is part of the State’s strategic orientation aimed at developing rail transport, considered a mode of transport with high added value due to its comparative advantages and its central role in achieving the country’s economic and social development objectives.
