The National Institute of Meteorology placed, this Friday, December 26, 2025, the governorates of Greater Tunis, Nabeul, Zaghouan and Sousse under orange vigilance, due to forecasts of temporarily intense stormy rains.
According to data published by the INM, these disturbances should be accompanied locally by significant amounts of rain in a short period of time, with a risk of hail falling in limited areas. Wind gusts occasionally exceeding 60 km/h are also expected during the passage of storm cells.
These weather conditions could disrupt daily activities and complicate road traffic, particularly in urban areas and roads vulnerable to accumulation of water. The institute warns against the rapid formation of runoff, the rise of wadis, as well as the risk of saturation of sanitation networks, which could lead to localized flooding and power cuts.
Be vigilant
Faced with these risks, the INM calls on citizens to be vigilant, to inform themselves of developments in the weather situation before any travel and to respect safety instructions, particularly when driving. It is recommended to avoid secondary roads, not to walk or drive on submerged roads, to stay away from watercourses and not to go down into basements or low areas during rainy periods.
Furthermore, the governorates of Bizerte, Jendouba, Béja, Le Kef, Siliana, Kairouan, Mahdia and Monastir have been placed on yellow alert. This level implies particular attention when practicing activities sensitive to weather hazards.
Meteorological vigilance aims to alert the population as well as civil protection services and health authorities, in order to facilitate the anticipation of risks and the mobilization of intervention teams. The vigilance map is updated at least twice a day, at 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., and provides an estimate of potential dangers over the next 24 hours.
