The month of November was characterized by a rainfall deficit on a national scale, according to data published by the National Institute of Meteorology. While the north of the country generally benefited from rainfall consistent with seasonal norms, the central and southern regions recorded a clear lack of rain.
The latest climate data from the National Institute of Meteorology (INM) shows a national rainfall deficit of 20% during the month of November. A contrasting situation, marked by strong regional disparities, with a north relatively spared and a center heavily affected by drought.
Sustained precipitation in the north, driven by the North-West
In the north of the country, rainfall was generally within climatic norms. This situation is mainly attributed to the successive rainy episodes recorded in the North-West, particularly in Tabarka, where several significant daily accumulations were observed throughout the month.
All of the nine meteorological stations in the north accumulated 694.3 mm, or 105.2% of the reference average, thus making it possible to partially compensate for the deficits recorded in other regions.
A severe deficit in the center and persistent in the south
Conversely, the situation remains particularly worrying in the center of the country, where the lack of precipitation has reached almost 90%. The seven weather stations in this region recorded only a cumulative 19.8 mm, representing barely 9.5% of the seasonal normal.
In the south, the nine stations accumulated 94.8 mm, against a climatological average of 156.8 mm, a deficit of around 40%, reflecting rainfall significantly lower than expected.
Thermally, the national average temperature stood at 16.6°C, slightly above the normal estimated at 16.5°C. Monthly values oscillated between 11.9°C in Thala and 19.1°C in Djerba.
Snowfall in the northwest reliefs
Average maximum temperatures varied from 16.3°C in Thala to 23.9°C in Médenine, with a national average reaching 21.9°C, above the climatological reference. On the other hand, the average minimum temperatures, established at 11.3°C, remained slightly below normal.
The climate bulletin also reports snowfall observed during the month, mainly in the mountainous areas of the northwest, notably in Aïn Draham and the surrounding heights, confirming a localized winter episode despite the overall rainfall deficit.
