The General Federation of Secondary Education called on all teachers to refuse the Ministry of Education’s request to organize catch-up classes during the winter holidays. According to the Federation, this measure is justified by the ministry in the name of the principle of equal opportunities between students, in a context marked by occasional or structural shortcomings in certain subjects, in order to allow the organization of homework and the calculation of averages.
The Federation, however, considers that this approach does not respect educational standards in terms of evaluation and leads to results which do not objectively reflect the real level of students. She denounces a process that she describes as irresponsible, undermining the principle of equal opportunities and devaluing both students and teachers.
Malfunctions observed
In its press release, the union organization considers that teachers are thus asked to take on missions of which they are not at the origin, and this, without addressing the root causes of the dysfunctions observed. She warns of the repercussions of this choice on the quality of education and the future of public schools.
The Federation has, therefore, renewed its call to all educators not to engage in this approach, considering that it profoundly threatens the educational process and further weakens the public school system.
