According to the press release from the Ministry of Economy and Planningthe chairman and CEO of BA Glass explained that the choice of Tunisia responded to strategic considerations, consistent with the group’s orientation towards new markets, particularly in Africa.
A leading European industrial player
Founded in Portugal, BA Glass is one of the main European groups specializing in packaging glass, mainly producing bottles and jars for the beverage, food and, to a lesser extent, pharmaceutical industries.
The group today has 14 production plants spread across seven countries: Portugal, Spain, Germany, Poland, Bulgaria, Romania and Mexico. It employs more than 4,000 people and produces approximately 12 billion glass containers per year, exported to more than 70 countries around the world.
Until now, BA Glass does not have any industrial presence in Africa, an element which gives particular emphasis to the interest shown for Tunisia.
Tunisia, between industrial attractiveness and regional positioning
During the meeting with the Minister of Economy and Planning, Samir Abdelhafidh, the CEO of BA Glass highlighted several factors that motivated the choice of Tunisia, including its geographical position, the availability of local skills and the quality of human resources.
These are all elements which, according to the ministry’s press release, are part of the group’s overall strategy aimed at expanding into new and promising areas, with particular attention paid to the African continent, presented as a horizon of development.
For the Tunisian authorities, this interest converges with national priorities in terms of job creation, technology transfer and strengthening export capacities. The minister thus affirmed the availability of his department and the structures concerned to support the company in the different stages of its project.
