The Press Council expressed its deep dissatisfaction following the broadcast on the El Hiwar Ettounsi channel of the program entitled “Wahech Promax”, accused of promoting unproven cancer treatments and giving voice to individuals making misleading claims.

In an official statement, the Council described this type of content as “a dangerous shift in journalistic practice”, stressing that it violates the rules and ethics of the profession, while exposing patients and their families to serious health risks.

The Council recalled that the main mission of the media is the search for truth and verification of sources. According to him, any promotion of fictitious medical practices or information not scientifically validated constitutes serious misconduct, and speeches based on quackery or pseudo-medicine can mislead patients and push them to adopt dangerous behavior.

Respect of professional codes

The press release also emphasizes respect for professional codes and ethical standards, particularly in terms of health information. “Medical content is not a subject of entertainment but scientific knowledge that must be validated by specialists,” specifies the Council, recalling that Decree No. 116 of 2011 provides for sanctions for any media content that is misleading or contrary to health security rules.

Finally, the Press Council reaffirmed its commitment to responsible journalism, based on precise and reliable information, and called on all media to fully respect professional and ethical rules, avoiding disseminating superstitions, illusions or any content likely to harm the health of citizens.
