On December 9, the governor of Tunis, Imed Boukhris, received a visit from the Swedish ambassador, Cecilia Ramsten. According to official statements, the meeting was described as “fruitful and rich”, addressing several themes such as sustainability, urban waste management, innovation, investment and cooperation opportunities.
Preparations for the celebration of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Tunisia and Sweden in 2026 were also discussed.
The ambassador underlined the age of bilateral relations, which exceed 280 years, and expressed the desire of the two countries to strengthen their ties.
This visit takes place in a sensitive political context. Tunisian President Kaïs Saïed recently called several ambassadors to order, denouncing attempts to interfere in the country’s internal affairs.
This reminder reaffirms the vigilance of the Tunisian presidency in the face of any form of diplomatic pressure and its commitment to protect national sovereignty, while continuing a constructive dialogue with international partners.
