At least fourteen people were killed and thirty-four others injured on Saturday December 6, 2025, when a bus skidded and overturned in the Tebelballa region, approximately 400 km south of Béchar, according to Civil Protection. Images relayed by local media show the vehicle overturned on its roof at the side of the road, demonstrating the violence of the impact. The bus was traveling on the national road linking Béchar to Tindouf when it left its trajectory before overturning.
President Abdelmadjid Tebboune declared himself “deeply saddened” by the tragedy and offered his condolences to the bereaved families. The authorities have not yet specified the exact origin of the slip, but an investigation has been opened.
The worst road accident since August
This accident is the deadliest since that which occurred last August, when a bus carrying passengers fell from a bridge in a wadi near Algiers, killing eighteen people and injuring twenty-four. The vehicle left its trajectory before plunging into the dry river bed, leading to a massive emergency response.
