The Ministry of Transport presented the financing mechanisms and the roadmap for the future deep water port of Enfidha. A strategic project for Tunisia, it must support the rise in global maritime traffic and strengthen the country’s logistical position in the Mediterranean.
The Minister of Transport, Rached Amri, chaired a session dedicated to monitoring the deep water port of Enfidha and its vast logistics services area. Around the table were ministry officials, the CEO of the Enfidha Port Company, the CEO of OMMP, as well as representatives of the Ministries of Economy, Agriculture, Equipment and the Environment.
The meeting focused mainly on the financing arrangements for the project and the consolidation of its operational roadmap.
A national project qualified as strategic
Rached Amri reaffirmed the strategic nature of the port, justified by Tunisia’s geographical position in the heart of the Mediterranean where 30% of world maritime traffic transits.
He insisted on the State’s desire to continue carrying out the project with strict respect for national sovereignty, following a progressive approach structured around a timetable and in consistency with the country’s environmental policies.
Faced with intensifying port competition in the region and rapid technological advances in the maritime sector, the minister stressed the need to invest in new generation ports.
A lever of transformation for the central region
The future port of Enfidha will, according to him, make it possible to accommodate very large capacity ships, reduce logistics costs, strengthen the attractiveness of investments and support the competitiveness of Tunisian exports.
Beyond its maritime dimensions, the project is part of a territorial planning vision. The minister recalled that the third region of the country – linking the Algerian border to the eastern coasts – could be transformed into a regional logistics hub thanks to the port, with economic benefits for the entire Tunisian center.
