The Tunisian General Labor Union (UGTT) announced yesterday, Friday December 5, the decision of its Administrative Commission to organize a general strike on January 21, 2026.
These two dates attract attention because they seem to respond to a symbolism linked to the history of the Central Trade Union.
Indeed, if December 5 coincides with the date of the assassination of Farhat Hached, main founder of the UGTT, the date of January 21 suggests another symbol.
The founding of the General Labor Union of Tunisia took place on January 20, 1946 and the historic union will celebrate its eightieth anniversary on this date. Thus, if it actually takes place, this general strike will take place the day after this commemoration.
A symbolism of dates which is important and deserves to be noted.
